The 59th annual AAA Senior Boys Island Basketball Championship is officially set following the North/South challenge game earlier this evening. The host team Mt. Doug had to fight for their right to gain entry to the tournament, but did so following a 73-55 victory over Highland of Comox in Ladysmith tonight.
The draw is now set as Dover Bay and Claremont will begin the tournament at Mt. Doug on Thursday afternoon at three. Mt. Doug will then hope to use their home court advantage as they take on the North Island champion Cowichan following game one. Other first round games Thursday include defend Vancouver Island champions Belmont versus Alberni and Lower Island champions Oak Bay against G.P Vanier.
The top two teams from this weekend's tournament will advance to the 2009 TELUS BC Boys AAA Championships at the Agrodome in Vancouver from March 10-14.
Stay tuned to VSO this weekend as we update the tournament from Mt. Doug
