The Victoria Rebels obviously had some aggression to burn off this past weekend as the team annulated the last placed Vancouver Trojans 84-19. Following disappointing losses to Surrey and Vancouver Island, Victoria made good use of their bye week to prepare for the not so USC-like Trojans.
Quarterback Yannick Rickli was absolutely outstanding as the Rebel's pivot threw for nine touchdowns, setting a BCJF record in the process. Even more impressive was that Rickli's single game performance was more touchdowns than he had thrown in the first five games of the season.
Victoria slot back Tyson Takasaki also made the BCJF record book on Saturday, as his six receiving touchdowns set the record for a single game total.
The Rebels also received offensive contribution from wide receiver Mike Mizerski who added two touchdowns, Chris McCormick added one, running backs Justin Andrushko and Zack Brandham both scored on the ground apiece and even the defense got in on the offensive fun as defensive back Paul Irwin returned a Vancouver fumble recovery 26 yards for one of the 12 touchdowns.
The score might have been even worse for Vancouver, had the Rebels not taken their foot off the gas pedal in fourth quarter, as Rickli did not throw a touchdown pass following the third quarter and the defense laid off allowing the Trojans to score their only two touchdowns of the game.
Victoria now sits firmly in third place in the BCJF standings at 4-2 and return home to City Centre Stadium to take on South Surrey this Saturday. This game will have major playoff implications as the Rebels hope to avenge their 37-16 loss to the Rams on the mainland in August.
