Highlanders Use Home Field Advantage in Huge Win Over Yakima

The Victoria Highlanders have proven they can score when the want to, as they put up more than five goals for the second time in their short history this year, with a 6-1 drubbing of division foes Yakima on Saturday night.

It didn't look bright for the Highlanders going into halftime however, as Yakima lead 1-0 following the first 45 and seemed to have the game in their control. Coach Colin Miller seemed to light a fire under his players at that point though, as Victoria came out firing in the second half.

Local boy Jordie Hughes lead the attack for the Highlanders as he scored a team record four goals, along with markers from Joey Mathot and Patrick Gawrys. Highlander newcomer Jose Herrera played well in net, as he picked up his first win with the team.

Victoria fans once again showed their support for the new team, as over 1,500 fans packed City Centre Stadium, a number that the Highlander front office was hoping to surpass.

Victoria now sits alone in sixth place in the PDL Northwest Division, with five games left in the regular season. The Highlanders next test will be a home-and-home series with Seattle, starting on the road next Friday.
