Shamrocks Get Back on Track With Pair of Weekend Wins

The Victoria Shamrocks got back to their winning ways this weekend, as the team was able to shrug off their first loss of the WLA regular season.

In their first game of the weekend at home against Nanaimo on Friday, Victoria came out strong, taking a 9-2 lead by the end of the first period. Victoria only scored two goals in the second period, but didn't allow Nanaimo to get any closer and led 11-4 going into the third. The Shamrocks stayed strong defensively in the third eventually taking the game 15-7.

Lewis Ratcliff and Jeff Shattler both had six points for the Shamrocks, while Rhys Duch added four goals. Back up goaltender Aaron Bold played well in net, stopping 36 of 43 shots to pick up his third win of the season.

Following their win against the Timbermen, the Shamrocks headed to Coquitlam to take on the Adanacs. Victoria played consistent lacrosse all three periods, scoring six goals in each frame en route to a 18-11 win. Despite being outshot 49-44, Victoria received solid goaltending from Nick Patterson who made 38 saves to pick up his eighth victory of the season. Lewis Ratcliff continued his MVP caliber season with nine points for Victoria, followed by Jeff Shattler with seven and Rhys Duch with six.

With seven games left to go in the WLA season, Victoria is now three points clear of second placed New Westminster. Despite their lead the Shamrocks know they will have to continue to play solid lacrosse if they are to remain in first place come playoff time.

Victoria will next take on Burnaby on the mainland on Friday, before returning to Victoria to play Maple Ridge next Sunday.
