The Victoria Shamrocks are proving they are a team on a mission following two more wins this weekend to extend their winning streak to seven and remain undefeated in the 2009 season.
After a close victory against New Westminster last Friday, Victoria wasn’t leaving anything to chance as they began this week by dismantling the Maple Ridge Burrards 18-9 at Bear Mountain Friday night.
The majority of the Shamrocks scoring came in the second period when the team shelled Maple Ridge for 10 goals en route to the blowout victory. Luke Wiles lead the way for the Shamrocks with 6 goals, while Rhys Duch added a goal and 6 assists in the victory.
The Shamrocks then moved on to take on their Vancouver Island rival Nanaimo Timbermen up north on Saturday night and proceeded to crush them 20-10. Victoria peppered their opponents with 55 shots on net, as Lewis Ratcliff had 4 goal and 5 assists and Rhys Duch had 3 goals and 4 assists. Goalie Nick Patterson didn't have to be spectacular, but still made 34 saves to pick up his fifth win of the season.
The WLA season has nearly reached its halfway point and it's clear that Victoria is the team to beat. But despite their streak, the Shamrocks know they must continue to keep up the pressure if they want to bring another Mann Cup back to the Garden City.
Next up for the Shamrocks is the Langley Thunder next Friday night at Bear Mountain Arena.
