Victoria schools have a lot to be proud of following some excellent performances at the 2009 BC High School Track and Field Championships at Swangard Stadium last weekend.
In the overall standings for the title, Oak Bay took the grand aggregate with a total of 177 points, nearly 100 points ahead of second place Brookswood. In the Men's and Women's divisions, Oak Bay also won the Women's title, while the boys finished second. Claremont finished tenth in the aggregate and fourth in the Women's division, while Stelly's finished seventh in the aggregate and fifth in Women's.
In individual results, Claremont's Aleisha Cobb, who was a big winner at the Island Championships, displayed her talents once again, as she picked up gold in the Women's Long Jump, while taking silver in the Women's 100 Meter Race.
Another Vancouver Island Champion who followed up with gold was Oak Bay's David McKay, who took the title in Men's Pole Vault.
Oak Bay's Laurel Draper pulled off the rare double champion feat, as she won both the Women's 800 Meter Race and 1500 Meter Steeplechase. Teammate Dylan Haight took gold in the Men's 2000 Meter Steeplechase.
Adam Keenan of Lambrick Park didn't go home empty handed, as he won bronze in both Men's Hammer and Discus.
Both of the Women's Relay Races were taken by Victoria teams as Claremont won the 4 x 100 Meter Relay, while Oak Bay took the 4 x 400 race. Island Champions Mt. Doug concluded their successful season with a bronze medal in the Men's 4 x 100 Meter Relay.
Other local results include Oak Bay's Rachel Inglis winning the Women's Race Walk, Holly Parent of Reynolds taking silver in Women's High Jump, Nikki Jackson of Claremont getting bronze in Women's Triple Jump and Stelly's Danielle Delage claiming silver in the Women's 400 Meter Hurdles.
North Island participants also performed strong at this competition, as Ladysmith’s, Haleigh Lloyd followed up her double victory at the Vancouver Island Championships with wins in both the Women's 100 and 400 Meter Hurdles. Cody Parker of Highland also claimed gold, as he won the Men's Javelin.
Congratulations to all of the Vancouver Competitors and Champions from the 2009 Season.
