The Victoria Seals showed the team's first major sign of adversity over the weekend as they recovered from a 7-1 pounding by Chico on Friday to pick up consecutive victories on Saturday and Sunday and take the weekend set.
In the second game of the series on Saturday, Victoria pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx picked up his second victory in a row following a solid 7 inning performance, allowing only 5 hits with no runs and nine strikeouts. The Seals offence also came out strong on Saturday, as the team combined for 15 hits, as first baseman Brett Flowers lead the way going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI.
In the rubber match of the series on Sunday, Victoria once again used a balanced attack of 14 hits to lead them to a 5-3 victory. Seals pitcher Isaac Hess allowed just 2 hits over six innings of work, as Mike Reeves held the game through the 7th and 8th, allowing Javier Garcia to pick up his 4th save of the season. Sergio Pedroza had 2 RBI to lead the Seals offensively.
The Seals can now take solace in the fact that they can win on the road, as they head into a rematch of last week's series against Orange County in California on Tuesday.
Their victory in the series over the weekend now leaves Victoria only two games back of third place Edmonton in the GBL North Division standings.
